Hey guys!

FUN DAY today. We’re talking about one of the best holidays of the year and adult beverages. Win-win.

Mardi Gras is coming up quick and here in St. Louis, we take this very seriously.

I don’t recall ever celebrating this holiday prior to moving to this city just over three years ago, but now it’s one holiday that I really look forward to because it is a giant PARTAY.

Historic Soulard shows it’s true colors for the full weekend (which are obviously purple, green and yellow) and throws one heck of a bash (the 2nd biggest in the nation, right behind New Orleans).

This year, I’m excited to head into the holiday prepared…

With a fancy drink recipe, that is.

My roommates were kind enough to test this recipe out this past weekend before I shared it with you guys and Drizly was kind enough to bring the booze… Directly to my door.

I kid you not, guys. Alcohol delivery is a REAL THING now in select cities across the US. With a few taps on a slick app, a bounty of alcoholic beverages can be on their way too your door within the hour.

Technology really is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?

The possibilities here are pretty endless.  Think of all the scenarios in which you might just want a cold one but can’t (or don’t want to) run to the store.

Times like…

  • When you’re in the middle of a doubleheader game of beer league kickball and can’t sacrifice any of the roster to make a beer run
  • When you’re baking boozy cupcakes and realize you don’t have enough liquor for the frosting but the oven’s already preheated
  • When you’re doing that awesome, super-long getting ready thing that chicks like to do and realize you already drank all the wine (Uh-oh)
  • When you’ve got a bunch of people at your house, run out of refreshments and can’t bring yourself to leave the party for fear of missing out (FOMO is real, guys)
  • When you decide to celebrate a special night (ahem, Valentine’s Day, perhaps?) in with your sweetheart and want to surprise them with their favorite brew
  • When your friends just had a baby and you want to congratulate them with a bottle of their favorite bubbly but there is no way they’re making it out any time soon
  • When your friends just had a baby and you really want to celebrate your continued singledom and baby-less lifestyle by binge-watching Law & Order SVU in your PJs with a giant bottle of wine but can’t be bothered to put on both pants AND shoes to go to the store #singlegirlproblems #imeansolutions
  • When it’s 4pm on a Friday and you want to surprise your team at work with an impromptu in-office Happy Hour (#bestbossever)
  • When your parents call to tell you they’re on their way over in an hour and you decide you want to whip up a decent dinner, clean the house and impress them with your impressive wine selection…

I could go on.

Drizly recently became available in St. Louis and using the service seriously SO simple. You can visit their website (www.drizly.com) or download their app (iOS, Android), then with a few taps (or clicks), you can order hundreds of different beverages and mixers. Then you can relax for awhile and a nice driver will deliver your goods right to your door for a $5.00 delivery fee.

It really is as simple as that.

To celebrate the launch of Drizly here in St. Louis, be sure to use the code FreeSTL for a free delivery.

This past Friday night, Ashley, Kristen and I were heading to a concert downtown and decided to take advantage of Drizly to stock up for Mardi Gras next weekend and do a test run of a new drink recipe:

Blood Orange Hurricanes

One of my major gripes with hurricanes is that they’re just way too sickly sweet. So I wanted to put a more refreshing twist on the recipe.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Blood Orange Hurricanes:

  • Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
  • Captain Morgan White Rum
  • San Pellegrino Blood Orange Soda
  • Pineapple Juice
  • Grenadine
  • A splash of Sprite

Anddd here’s how to make the drink (we made one for each of us, so the yield on this is 3):

Pour 2 shots of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, 2 Shots of Captain Morgan White Rum, 2 shots of pineapple juice and a half shot of grenadine into the shaker and shake with ice. Then fill each glass a third of the way full with Sprite (this is optional, but I liked it more sparkly and light) and a third of the way full with San Pellegrino Blood Orange Soda. Finally pour the mixture from the shaker evenly into each of the glasses and garnish with fresh mint.

I think it’s safe to say that with that, we’re ready for Mardi Gras!

Would you ever get alcohol delivered? If you could, what kind would you choose? Lemme hear it in the comments.

I teamed up with Drizly and the Midwest Influencer Network for this sponsored post to spread the word about Drizly’s launch in St. Louis. All opinions and idea are 100% totally genuine (and we’re totally making this drink next weekend). Thank you for supporting the businesses and brands that support this little hobby of mine.
